HB 308 looks to help food banks
ByOn Thursday, Rep. Shannon Augare (D) of Browning sponsored HB 308 to the House Judiciary committee. HB 308, titled “Allow donations of food as method of serving sentence of community service” provides an additional avenue for individuals to fulfill their obligations when sentenced to community service.
According to Rep. Augare, HB 308 “provides lower courts with the ability to conduct food drives so individuals can pay down their fines for the benefit of local food banks.”
As food banks continue to suffer through the economic downturn, HB 308 acts as a valuable tool for both those looking to fulfill community service hours and those in need of food bank services.
HB 308 will have a committee hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee.

"I think that it’s going to all work out, with the changes that we have agreed to. It’s not as much (spending for some programs) as I would’ve hoped, but apparently it’s more than other people wanted. As usual, we are trying to find the middle.”
"[On term limits:] You empower the executive, you empower the lobbyists and that's not good for the system because then we lose what the citizen Legislature brings.”
